Distillation Technician

Introduction

Reporting to the Refining Operations Manager, the lead Distillation Technician is responsible for carrying out decarboxylation and distillation processes within the refining process. This role will perform day-to-day duties in compliance with SOPs and Health Canada Regulations.

Position

  • Operation and preventative maintenance on state-of-the-art distillation equipment
  • Operation and preventative maintenance of decarboxylation equipment
  • Data collection, analysis and meticulous record keeping
  • Follow SOPs pertaining to all processes; assist with minor updates as required
  • Handle large volumes of winterized crude and distillate
  • Perform distillation tasks as assigned by manager in accordance to relevant SOPs
  • Assist with optimization of processes to drive efficiency and purity of final product
  • Ensure 100% compliance with QA requirements during day-to-day activities
  • Identify improvement opportunities and report issues in order to maximize efficiency, quality and yield while ensuring safety and reliability
  • Perform sanitation activities as per GPP requirements
  • Sample preparation for all required analytical testing
  • Assist with developing and maintaining distillation tools
  • Detailed record keeping of batch data per Health Canada regulations
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills

  • Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Engineering, or Chemical Engineering Technology Diploma required (or equivalent)
  • 2+ years laboratory, production/manufacturing, or pharmaceutical experience referred.
  • Experience within Cannabis industry is preferred
  • Experience with wiped film distillation processes is highly preferred
  • Basic distillation knowledge required
  • Attention to detail and commitment to safety while operating process equipment
  • Positive attitude with strong communication skills
  • Strong time management skills including ability to multitask and prioritize
  • Shows initiative and ownership of work and willingness to learn
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Physically fit; standing and/or sitting will be required for long periods of time and must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Required to pass a criminal background check
  • Must be able to work various shift schedules as required
